The earliest form of leisure tourism can be traced as far back as the Babylonian and Egyptian empires. This continued through the Roman Times, with first class roads and staging inns promoting the growth of travel. Module 1 takes you on the journey into the Age of the Discoverers, the Industrial Revolution, birth of aviation and the first package tours.
We then arrive into the 20th century and explore how business travel began. We look at the value business travel brings and its link to economic prosperity and how, even in the 21st century of digital revolution, face-to-face meetings are as important as ever. That said, client organisations still need to quantify the value of sending employees on business trips. So, increasingly they ask "What is the return on our company's investment?" This term is known as ROI - which we explore in more detail, as it is an important factor in the future of Travel Management.
